Dentures

Full dentures are used when all teeth in an arch are missing, while partial dentures replace one or more missing teeth and are supported by the remaining natural teeth. Dentures are made from materials such as acrylic, metal or a combination, and are tailored to fit the individual’s mouth for comfort and function.

Partial dentures are dental appliances used to replace one or more missing teeth while preserving the remaining natural teeth. They are held in place by clasps or attachments that anchor to adjacent teeth, providing stability and support. Partial dentures can have an acrylic (plastic) base or a metal framework, depending on the patient’s needs. These dentures not only aim to improve the appearance of a smile but also help with chewing and prevent the remaining teeth from shifting out of position.

Dentures are designed to fit securely in the mouth, relying on natural suction and the structure of the gums for full dentures. Partial dentures stay in place with clasps or attachments to natural teeth. In some cases, denture adhesives can be used for added stability. Implant-supported dentures are another option, offering additional support and security by anchoring the denture to dental implants placed in the jawbone.

Dentures require daily care to maintain hygiene and longevity. Clean them with a soft brush and denture cleaner to remove food particles and bacteria. Avoid using abrasive toothpaste, which can damage the surface. Dentures should be soaked overnight in water or a denture cleaning solution to retain their shape and keep them moist. Additionally, regular dental check-ups are important to assess the fit and condition of dentures, as the shape of the gums and jaw may change over time, requiring adjustments.
